What is a Subaccount?

Question

What is a Twilio subaccount?

Answer

Subaccounts are a division within a Twilio account that are "owned" by that account. Subaccounts  have their own usage and resources. However, subaccounts do not have their own account balance and instead share it with their parent account. All of your account users have access to your subaccounts.

A subaccount is an ideal way to separate your phone numbers, usage, and application settings for a specific end customer. Our users who commonly make use of subaccounts are mostly resellers of our product who have different customers of their own, and want to keep customer 1's data separate from customer 2's data.

Updating subaccount limits

By default an upgraded account can only have 1000 subaccounts. Trial accounts can have only a single subaccount. Closed subaccounts do not count towards this limit.

If your upgraded account is approaching 1000 subaccounts, contact Twilio Support requesting to increase your subaccount limit and include the following information:

  • Your parent account SID
  • Your use case for subaccounts
  • How many subaccounts you need
