Are End-User IP Addresses Retained in Segment Custom Domains?

Question

Is the end-user IP address preserved in Segment events when using Custom Domains?

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

Yes. Segment Custom Domains preserve the original client IP address at the network layer. This means the IP address can still be available to Segment from request metadata, even when context.ip is not explicitly included in the event payload.

If the user is behind a VPN, proxy, or corporate security tool, Segment may receive the IP address from that service instead of the user’s direct network IP.
