How Do You Add Object Properties to a Track Call in Tracking Plans?

Question

How can I add track call object or array property to my Tracking Plan in Segment, and how do I validate required properties for specific event?

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

Segment supports object and array data types in the Tracking Plan editor. These complex data structures have limited use cases and should be used sparingly as some destinations aren't able to ingest the data structures. To add an object or array:

  1. Create a new property row and set the Data Type to Object or Array.
  2. Click the (+) next to the property name to add key value pairs in the object, or objects to an array of objects.
Note:

When creating array properties in your Tracking Plan, add the items nested property to ensure that the nested property is marked as planned in the Source Schema. The items are denoted by the name of the array property with a .$ suffix in the Schema.
