Resolving Unsynced Data Issues After Failed Warehouse Syncs

Issue

After a warehouse sync fails, customers may be concerned about missing data or the need for manual backfills or replays to recover unsynced records.

Product

Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Cause

When a sync fails, the checkpoint is not updated, so subsequent syncs continue to attempt to collect data from the last successful checkpoint.

Resolution

Segment warehouse syncs are incremental and save a checkpoint only when a sync completes successfully. If a sync fails, the checkpoint is not updated, so subsequent syncs will attempt to collect data starting from the last successful checkpoint. Once the underlying issue is resolved and a sync completes successfully, it will automatically gather all missed data since the last checkpoint. Manual replay or backfill is not required.

Additional Information

This process ensures that, even after multiple failed syncs, all data since the last successful sync will be collected once the sync resumes.
