"Event Type Not Supported" Errors When Using New Segment Insert Functions

Issue

When enabling a new source or destination insert function in Segment Actions, users may encounter errors such as "identify is not supported," "group is not supported," "page is not supported," "screen is not supported," "alias is not supported," or "delete is not supported" when sending these event types. This occurs because the default function template throws an EventNotSupported error for these events.

Environment

Cause

The default code generated for new insert functions includes handlers for Identify, Group, Page, Screen, Alias, and Delete events that throw an EventNotSupported error by default. This prevents these event types from being processed until the function is updated.

Resolution

To support these event types, update the corresponding handler functions in the insert function code to include logic for handling Identify, Group, Page, Screen, Alias, and Delete events. Remove or modify the lines that throw the EventNotSupported error and implement the necessary processing for each event type. After updating and deploying the function, test sending each event type to confirm successful processing.

Additional Information

This behavior is expected for customers enabling insert functions for the first time, as the default template does not support these event types until custom logic is added.
