Does Segment Support Domain-Level Audience Randomization Splits?

Question

Does Segment support domain-level audience randomized splits for experimentation, allowing users who share the same domain to be grouped into the same treatment or control group?

Segment

Answer

No, Segment does not natively support domain-level or entity-level randomized audience splits. Randomized splits in Segment Audiences are evaluated strictly at the individual user profile level.

If you need all users belonging to the same domain to be placed in the same experiment split group, you can implement the following workaround:

  1. Pre-calculate domain group assignments externally in your backend database or data warehouse.
  2. Sync or pass the assigned group as a custom user trait to Segment using an identify() call (for example, experiment_group: "treatment").
  3. Build your Segment Audiences using filters based on that custom user trait.
