Question
How can I set up Google Tag Gateway for Google Tag Manager when GTM is injected via Segment on a Webflow-hosted site, and not directly through Webflow?
Product
Segment
Environment
Segment Console
Answer
To use Google Tag Gateway with Segment on Webflow, set up a reverse proxy (Tag Gateway) on your own infrastructure. This proxy should route requests from your custom domain to Google’s GTM endpoints, including both the initial container load and downstream gtag/collect calls. Enter your custom domain in the “Google Custom Domain” field within Segment’s GTM destination settings. Segment will then inject the GTM script from your custom domain, helping bypass ad blockers. Webflow’s native GTM Gateway toggle only applies to scripts it injects directly and does not affect Segment-injected GTM scripts.
Additional Information
Segment’s “Google Custom Domain” field only changes the script source; it does not provision or validate the proxy. The Tag Gateway must be hosted externally and cover all relevant endpoints for full ad-blocker evasion.
