Does Connecting a New Destination to an Existing Audience Send Historical Membership Data?

Question

When I connect a new destination to an existing Segment Engage audience, will historical audience membership data be sent to the new destination?

Product

Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

When a new destination is connected to an existing Segment Engage audience, Engage will automatically backfill historical audience membership data to the new destination, as long as the audience has the historical backfil flag enabled. This ensures the destination receives the full set of current audience members, not just new entry and exit events. If the backfill does not occur, a manual full resync can be triggered from the Segment Console or via API.

Additional Information

Manual resyncs can be performed in the Segment Console by selecting the audience, accessing the Destinations section, and choosing “Full resync.” Resyncs can also be triggered via API by setting performResync: true when creating or updating an activation.
