How Do You Configure Segment Destination Gating to Block Events?

Question

If consent enforcement or gating on the destination is possible in Segment, how should it be configured so that events are blocked (not just marked UNSPECIFIED) when the user has not consented?

Product

Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

Consent enforcement can be configured in Segment by using Destination Filters (available on the Business Tier) or Destination Insert Functions. These features allow you to set up rules or custom logic to block events from being forwarded to downstream destinations when user consent has not been granted, rather than simply marking the consent state as UNSPECIFIED.

Additional Information

Destination Filters enable conditional event blocking based on consent fields, while Insert Functions allow for custom JavaScript logic to drop events without consent. Refer to Segment documentation for setup instructions.
