How Does Google Tag Gateway Support Work in Segment Destinations?

Question

What is Google Tag Gateway (GTG) and which Segment destinations support loading Google tags from a custom domain?

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

Google Tag Gateway (GTG) is a feature that allows you to load Google tags (such as gtag.js) from your own domain or server, instead of directly from Google’s servers. This can help with privacy, performance, and compliance requirements.

Support for GTG by Segment destination:

Google Tag Manager Supported. In the destination’s settings section, there is a "Google Custom Domain" option to enter your custom domain.
Google Analytics 4 Web Supported. Custom domains are supported for loading Google tags.
Google Ads (Gtag) Not supported. The domain is hard-coded and cannot be changed.
Google Ads Conversions Not supported. This is a server-side integration and does not allow for custom domain configuration.

Additional Information

For more details on this feature, refer to the official Google Tag Manager Gateway documentation.
