Send Standard Events via Facebook Conversions API

Objective

If you need to send Facebook standard events—such as StartTrial or CompleteRegistration—that are not available as prebuilt mappings in the Segment Facebook Conversions API (Actions) destination, you can use the Custom Event action. This ensures that Meta recognizes these specific activities as standard events rather than custom events.

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

 Segment Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

A Workspace Owner or any user with permissions to configure destinations in Segment will be able to perform this action.

Procedure

To configure your standard events, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your Segment workspace.
  2. Go to Connections > Destinations and select your Facebook Conversions API (Actions) destination.
  3. Click Add Mapping and choose the Custom Event action.
  4. Set up your Event Trigger criteria to match the event you want to send (for example, a trial start or registration completion).
  5. In the Event Name field, enter the exact Facebook standard event name (e.g., StartTrial or CompleteRegistration).
    • Note: The event name must match Meta’s standard event name exactly; this field is case-sensitive and must not contain spaces.
  6. Use the Custom Data key/value editor to add any additional fields required by the event (such as content_name, currency, etc.).
  7. Save your mapping.

Additional Information

  • For a list of Facebook standard events, refer to Meta’s documentation.
  • More details on using Custom Event actions in Segment can be found in the Segment documentation.
  • This method ensures Meta recognizes your event as a standard event, not a custom event, as long as the event name matches exactly.
