Viewing How Audience Counts Are Calculated in Segment Audience Workspaces

Objective

This article explains how the audience count is calculated in Segment Audience workspaces, including which audiences are included in the count and how this affects workspace limits. If you see a warning about reaching your audience limit or notice a mismatch between the number of audiences you see and the usage report, this guide will help clarify how the count works.

Procedure

  1. Understanding Audience Limits:
Each Segment workspace has a contractual limit on the number of audiences that can be created. This limit is typically displayed in the usage or billing section of the Segment Console.

  2. What Counts Toward the Limit:

    • Only active audiences are counted toward your workspace’s audience limit.
    • Disabled audiences do not count toward the limit. Disabling an audience stops it from running or syncing, but does not remove it from your workspace.
    • Deleted audiences are also not counted.
  3. Counting Across Spaces:

    • The audience limit is enforced across all spaces within a workspace.
    • The total number of active audiences in all spaces is summed to determine your current usage.
  4. Viewing Your Audience Usage:

    • Go to the usage or billing section in the Segment Console to see your current audience count and limit.
    • If you see a warning (e.g., “You are reaching the 100 audiences limit”), this reflects the total number of active audiences across all spaces.
  5. Troubleshooting Discrepancies:

    • If you count more audiences manually than what is shown in the usage report, check if some are disabled. Only active audiences are included in the usage count.
    • If you recently disabled or deleted audiences, allow some time for the usage report to update.
