Fix MFA Rejection of Newly Created Password in Segment

Issue

When accepting a new workspace invitation and setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in Segment, you may find that the "Set Up SMS Authentication" modal rejects your newly created password. This password confirmation failure prevents you from completing your registration or connecting to the workspace before the SMS security code can be sent.

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Cause

This password rejection occurs during the local validation step before the SMS transmission is triggered. It is typically caused by web browser caching conflicts or a third-party password manager extension automatically auto-filling an incorrect or outdated password into the MFA password confirmation field.

Resolution

To resolve this validation error and successfully complete your MFA setup, follow these steps:
  1. Open a new Incognito or Private browsing window in your web browser.
  2. Access your email inbox and click the invitation link to accept the workspace invitation.
  3. Complete the initial account creation steps and proceed to the Multi-factor Authentication Required page.
  4. Click Set Up next to the Text Message option.
  5. When prompted in the setup modal, manually type your newly created password into the confirmation field rather than relying on an auto-fill extension.
  6. Click Send Code to receive your validation code and complete the registration setup.

Additional Information

If the issue persists or if you encounter SMS delivery failures, you can bypass the Text Message method entirely by clicking the "Set Up" button next to the "Authenticator App" option instead. This allows you to generate a time-based token using a verification application (such as Google Authenticator, 1Password, or Authy) that does not rely on mobile network SMS delivery.
