Segment LinkedIn Audiences Error: 426 Upgrade Required

Issue

When attempting to enable or authorize the LinkedIn Audiences destination in your Segment workspace, you receive the error Credentials are invalid: 426 Upgrade Required. This issue occurs during authorization or re-authorization, even if the same credentials successfully work for other LinkedIn destinations in your account.

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Cause

This error typically indicates that the LinkedIn integration requires an update, or that the LinkedIn account lacks the necessary permissions or API access required by the destination. It can also be caused by cached browser credentials that do not match the required access level for the destination workspace.

Resolution

To resolve this error and successfully authorize your destination, perform the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check LinkedIn Account Permissions: Verify that your LinkedIn account is active and not restricted or expired. Ensure you have the required administrative or ad account roles (such as Account Manager) to manage audiences.

  2. Clear Browser Sessions or Use Incognito: Log out of LinkedIn entirely in your current browser session. Open a new incognito or private browsing window, log into Segment, and attempt the authorization again to establish a fresh login session.

  3. Verify API Access: Confirm that the LinkedIn Audiences API is fully enabled for your specific ad account and that the relevant audience features are accessible.

  4. Compare Destination Configurations: If you have another working LinkedIn destination, compare its account permissions and settings against the non-working destination to pinpoint discrepancies.
