Why do users who do not satisfy the audience conditions still remain in the audience overview?

Question

Why do users who do not satisfy the audience conditions still remain in the audience overview?

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

When an audience is deleted and recreated using the same Audience Key in Segment Engage, historical data from the original audience may be retained. As a result, users who no longer have the relevant trait may still appear in the audience, and the audience size may not reflect recent updates accurately.

To ensure accurate audience membership, always use a unique Audience Key when recreating audiences.

Additionally, removing users directly from the audience does not automatically trigger updates to downstream destinations. Instead, ensure that the user profile re-enters the audience by satisfying the audience conditions again, and then remove the user profile from the audience. This helps ensure proper removal and downstream event propagation.
