Issue
When attempting to publish a new version of a Journey in Segment Engage, users may encounter an error indicating that the journey step limit has been exceeded, even if no new steps have been added. This can block feature launches and impact testing.
Product
Twilio Segment
Environment
Segment Console
Cause
Both live (published) and paused Journeys count toward the total journey step limit. Publishing a new version creates an additional live instance, which may exceed the allowed step credits if previous versions are not archived.
Resolution
To resolve this issue:
- Review all live and paused Journeys in your workspace.
- Archive any unused or inactive Journeys to free up step credits.
- Once sufficient credits are available, attempt to publish the new Journey version again.
Additional Information
A known bug may cause this error to appear even when within limits. Engineering is working on a fix. Archiving unused Journeys is the recommended workaround until the fix is released.
