Enabling "Send Track" for Segment Audience Sync to Marketo

Issue

You are trying to sync leads from a Segment audience to a Marketo static list, but the list is not populating. You need to know when to enable the "Send Track" toggle and how it affects your current audience members.

Cause

The Marketo Static Lists destination triggers the "Add to List" action based on "Audience Entered" Track events. If the Send Track toggle is disabled, Segment only sends Identify calls, which do not trigger the membership sync to your Marketo list. 

 

Resolution

To fix the sync issue and understand the impact on your data, follow these steps: 

  • Navigate to your Marketo Static Lists destination settings in Segment. 
  • Toggle the Send Track setting to ON
  • Ensure the event names are set to Audience Entered and Audience Exited
  • Impact on Past Events: Be aware that enabling this toggle is not retroactive.
  • Only users who enter or exit the audience after the toggle is enabled will trigger a sync event. 
  • To sync users who are already in the audience, you must trigger a manual resync or "replay" for that specific audience to generate the required Track events. Contact Segment Support for help initiating this.

 

Additional Information 

If you manually created the static list in Marketo and it still does not populate after enabling the toggle, delete the manual list and let Segment recreate it automatically.
