Objective
This article explains how to migrate your data flow to a new data warehouse destination in Segment. It provides the necessary steps to connect a new data warehouse, outlines the historical backfill timeline, and explains how to safely disable your previous warehouse destination to avoid data interruption.
Product
Twilio Segment
Environment
Segment Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
Workspace Owner or Warehouse Destination Admin
Procedure
Log in to your Segment workspace.
Navigate to Connections, then select Destinations.
Click Add Destination.
Search for your new data warehouse in the catalog and click Configure.
Select the data source you want to connect to the new warehouse and click Next.
Give your new destination a name and click Save.
Enter your warehouse connection credentials in the destination settings.
Click the toggle at the top of the Settings page to enable the new warehouse destination.
Wait for the initial data sync to complete. Your data should be available in the new warehouse between 24 and 48 hours from your first sync. Once connected, Segment automatically backfills up to two months of your historical data into the new warehouse. This can take longer depending on the amount of data available.
Once you have verified that the new warehouse is receiving data correctly, navigate to your legacy data warehouse destination in the Segment Console.
Go to the Settings tab of the legacy warehouse, disable the sync toggle, and save the settings to stop forwarding data to the old warehouse.
Additional Information
You must complete the migration to the new destination before disabling your legacy destination to ensure Segment continues to deliver data without interruption or data loss.
If you require a full historical backfill of data beyond the standard two months, you must be a Segment Business plan customer. Business plan customers can contact Segment support to request a full historical backfill.
