Understanding the NO_MATCHING_MAPPING Error in Segment when syncing Engage Audiences

Issue

The NO_MATCHING_MAPPING error appears when syncing Segment Engage Audiences to a destination, indicating that events sent to the destination do not match any enabled mapping. This prevents audience data from being delivered as expected.

Product

Segment Engage

Environment

Segment Console

Cause

This error occurs when there is no mapping configured for the event type being sent (such as identify or track), or when the mapping triggers are not enabled. Syncs may also begin before mappings are fully configured and enabled, resulting in failed deliveries.

Resolution

To resolve the NO_MATCHING_MAPPING error:

  1. Review the destination configuration and ensure mappings exist for all event types being sent (e.g., identify, track). Ensure the trigger conditions match the output payloads of the audiences.
  2. Enable the necessary mapping triggers before activating the destination.
  3. Confirm that mappings are active and correctly set up for each audience and event type.

Additional Information

Syncs may start before mappings are enabled, so it is recommended to complete and activate all mappings prior to connecting a destination to an audience.
