Twilio phone numbers can be associated to an A2P 10DLC Campaign at any time. This guide explains the process for adding numbers to your Campaign during registration, and after it goes live. Note: This guidance assumes that you have successfully registered your Business Profile and Brand(s) as described in How do I register to use A2P 10DLC messaging.
Associating numbers during Campaign registration
Associating your phone numbers can be done while registering your A2P Campaign or after a Campaign has been successfully verified. During the Campaign registration process you will be required to link a Messaging Service to your Campaign submission. You will be provided a choice to either create a new Messaging Service, or link it to an existing one. You will also have the option to save time by adding your phone number(s) at the time you submit your new campaign, or you can add them later with the step described below. You can find step-by-step instructions on how to do this in our A2P 10DLC Onboarding documentation.
Associating numbers after Campaign registration
Any numbers that you add to that Messaging Service will be automatically associated with the approved Campaign. For help adding numbers to a Messaging Service, see How Do I Add Numbers to a Messaging Service. Not sure which numbers remain unregistered? Generate a report to Check A2P 10DLC number registration status.
NOTE: When adding numbers to a Messaging Service, the phone number configuration will be overwritten by the Messaging Service configuration settings. For example, if you have a number that is set to receive inbound messages, but the Messaging Service is configured drop all incoming messages, inbound messages will fail once its moved into the Messaging Service. Pro tip: Check your other settings to ensure the desired behavior when moving numbers into a Messaging Service.
Sending messages using an A2P Campaign
Once you add numbers to your Messaging Service, it is not required to include the Messaging Service SID in your API requests to send messages. As long as those numbers remain in the Messaging Service, any messages that you send using those numbers will be associated with the registered Campaign.
Removing numbers from a Campaign
If you release a Twilio number, or remove a Twilio number from a Messaging Service that is associated with an A2P Campaign, that number will automatically be dissociated from that A2P Campaign.
