Can I Delete Unify Sources

Question

In our workspace, we have multiple Personas sources that do not have any recent events. Can I delete these sources?

Product

Twilio Segment

Environment

Segment Console

Answer

It is not possible to delete these sources  - doing so would lead to the Engage space being unstable and, possibly, unrecoverable, and the only way to remediate might be to create a new Engage space.

Additional Information

Engage Output sources are created and managed by Engage systems internally. For some destinations, Segment can only connect a source to one instance of that destination. To get around this restriction, Engage creates multiple sources to send events to the destinations connected to the space.
Unfortunately, our UI currently doesn't fully prevent making changes to these sources, however, tampering with these sources might lead to unpredictable behaviour and data loss in the destinations. Engage can reuse these sources at any time, as we note in our documentation here. Disabling output sources might also lead to profiles not being updated correctly because, behind the scenes, Engage output source is also an input source for the same Engage space. We recommend keeping output sources enabled. Even if the source doesn't have any recent data, new events might be sent through this source in the future.
