How to Configure Attribute Statements for a Twilio Flex Application in Okta

Objective

This article expands on how to configure claims for your Twilio Flex Okta integration. Continue reading to learn how to update or add Attribute Statements (claims) for an existing Twilio Flex application in an Okta environment.

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required 

  • You must have administrative access to your organization’s Okta dashboard.
  • Unified claims generation must be enabled for your Okta environment.

 

Procedure

Step 1: Access the Applications Page

1. Log in to your Okta Admin Twilio Console.
2. From the left-side navigation, click on Applications.
3. Under Applications, click on Applications again to view your list of configured apps.

 

Step 2: Open Your Application

1. Click on the Flex application.
2. This will open the application’s settings page.

 

Step 3: Go to the General Settings (for SAML)

1. On the application page, select the General tab.
2. Scroll down to the SAML Settings section.
3. Click Edit to update your SAML integration.

 

Step 4: Edit SAML Integration

1. On the Edit SAML Integration page, confirm settings.
2. Click Next to proceed.

 

Step 5: Configure SAML Settings 

On the Configure SAML page, scroll down to the Attribute Statements (optional) section.

Here, you can view, edit, or add new SAML attribute statements. This is where you configure what user information gets sent to your application.

 

Step 6: For Environments with Unified Claims Generation (Continued)

If you are working in an environment with the “Unified claims generation for Okta-protected SAML and OIDC custom app integrations” setting enabled, you can also manage attribute statements via the Sign On tab:

1. Go back to the application page.
2. Click on the Sign On tab.
3. Scroll down to the Attribute Statements section.
4. Click Add expression to create new attribute statements or use existing expressions.
5. If necessary, click Show legacy configuration for advanced/previous options.

 

Additional Information

  • Changes to attribute statements may impact application integrations validate your setup after updates.
  • The General tab is typically used for legacy SAML configuration, while the Sign On tab offers enhanced management when Unified claims generation is enabled.
