Question
What are the phases of porting a landline number?
Answer
Porting a landline number involves three key phases, which are essential to ensure a smooth transition of your number to Twilio. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- CSR (Customer Service Record) Phase:
- Twilio collaborates with our provisioning partners to request a 'service image' or account record from your current carrier.
- Your port request and service information are screened against the current carrier's provided record.
- If the information matches, the request progresses to the next phase.
- In cases where an account record is not provided by the current carrier, Twilio may ask the end-client to obtain this document to move the order forward for any of the following reasons outlined in this FAQ.
- FOC (Firm Order Commitment) Phase:
- Once the CSR phase is successfully completed, the port request enters the FOC phase.
- During this phase, a date is set for the number to be ported, known as the Firm Order Commitment date.
- This date is agreed upon by both the losing and winning carriers.
- Porting Completion Phase:
- On the FOC date, the number is officially ported to Twilio.
- The number is re-routed from the losing carrier to Twilio's network.
- Twilio ensures that the number is fully operational on our platform, completing the porting process.
These phases ensure that the porting process is handled efficiently and that your number is seamlessly transitioned to Twilio without service interruption.
