How do I look up a phone number with my Twilio trial account?

Objective

This article shows you how to run your first Lookup from the Twilio Console, so you can see what Twilio can tell you about a phone number — such as its line type or caller name — before you integrate Lookup into your app.

Product

Lookup

Environment

Twilio Console

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Home in the left sidebar.
  2. In the top bar, select your account status.
  3. Select See all free units.
  4. In the Free units panel, select Run a lookup. The Try out Lookup panel opens.
  5. Enter the number you want to check in Phone number.
  6. Select the information you want by ticking one or more packages — for example Line Type Intelligence or Caller Name.
  7. Select Check number.
  8. The Lookup response screen appears with a card for each package you selected and a Success pill on each one that returned data.
  9. To check another number, select Try again. The form reappears, ready for a new number.

Additional Information

  • Before you submit anything, the Request panel already shows the API call Twilio will make, so you can copy it into your own integration.
  • Select the information icon next to the panel title to open Try it out for free, which explains that your trial includes free units to test out Lookup.
  • When your free lookups run out, the panel shows You've used all your free lookups. Selecting Check number then shows the same message as a notification and no response is returned. Select Upgrade for full access to remove the limit.
  • After you upgrade, the panel shows You have full access to Lookup with a Go to Lookup link instead of the trial form. Use Identity & security › Lookup › Lookup a phone number to run lookups from there.
