How do I get started after creating my Twilio account?

Objective

This article explains what you see on your account home when you first sign in to a new Twilio account, and how to reach the guided setup and the hands-on product tryouts so you can send your first message, call, or email without writing any code.

Product

Twilio Console

Environment

Twilio Console

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Home in the left sidebar.
  2. Your account home greets you by name and shows a Get started with Messaging card. The card tracks your progress through three stages: Try it out, Unlock full access, and Scale.
  3. Select Start on the card to open the guided Messaging setup.
  4. To explore a different product instead, select a product tab — for example Messaging, Voice, or Email — from the list of products on your account home.
  5. Select the tryout button for that product, such as Try out SMS, Try out Voice, Try out Email, or Try out WhatsApp. A panel opens where you can send a real test message or place a real test call using a Twilio trial phone number.
  6. When you are finished, close the panel to return to the setup guide for that product.

Additional Information

  • A new account starts on a 30-day free trial. The trial includes a limited number of free messages, calls, and emails, a Twilio trial phone number, and up to five verified recipients, and sending is limited to your own country.
  • Because of those limits, you can only message or call phone numbers you have verified on the account. See "How do I add a verified recipient to my trial account?".
  • Upgrading to pay as you go removes the recipient limit, lets you buy your own phone number, and enables global sending. See "How do I choose a plan when I create a Twilio account?".
  • To check how much of your free allowance is left at any time, see "How do I see how many free trial units I have left?".
