How do I change or cancel auto-recharge?

Objective

This article explains how to adjust your auto-recharge amounts and payment method, or turn auto-recharge off entirely, so your Twilio top-ups match how you want to pay.

Product

Twilio Billing

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

You need permission to create, update, and delete auto-recharge settings. Without it, the Manage auto-recharge settings and Cancel auto-recharge actions are not shown.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Billing in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Billing. The overview for your billing group opens.
  3. In the billing group's navigation, select Settings, then Auto-recharge.
  4. To change your settings, select Manage auto-recharge settings, update When balance goes below, Bring my balance back up to, or Primary payment method, then select Save settings.
  5. To turn auto-recharge off, select Cancel auto-recharge.
  6. Read the "Cancel auto-recharge?" dialog, which explains that your balance will no longer be maintained automatically and that Twilio services are suspended if the billing group reaches a negative balance.
  7. Select Cancel auto-recharge to confirm, or Go back to keep it enabled.

Additional Information

  • Some billing groups cannot disable auto-recharge. In that case the page shows "Auto-recharge is enabled and cannot be disabled", explains that the billing group has an active support plan or accounts with short code senders that require it, and the cancel action is unavailable.
  • The Auto-recharge page shows your current status, threshold, recharge amount, primary payment method, and backup payment method.
  • If your card is close to expiring, update it first so recharges keep succeeding — see "How do I edit or delete a payment method?".
