Objective
This article explains how to set the low balance threshold for your Twilio billing group, so you receive an email before your balance runs out and services are affected.
Product
Twilio Billing
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
You need permission to update notification settings for the billing group. Without it, the Update low balance threshold action is not shown.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Billing in the left sidebar.
- Select Billing. The overview for your billing group opens.
- In the billing group's navigation, select Settings, then Notifications.
- In the Low balance section, check whether the status badge reads On or Off and note the current Low balance threshold.
- Select Update low balance threshold.
- Enter the amount you want to be warned at. The help text shows the allowed range.
- Select Save balance threshold.
- A confirmation message reads "Low balance notification threshold saved." and the section shows the new amount.
Additional Information
- The amount must be a number in the format 20 or 20.00 and must fall within the allowed range. Otherwise the field shows the range or "Enter a numerical amount in this format: 20 or 20.00".
- Low balance emails go to account owners. The Email recipients row links to information about users and roles.
- If the threshold cannot be saved, the dialog reads "Low balance notification threshold could not be saved at this time." with the guidance to try again later.
- The Low balance section is not shown for invoiced billing groups, which do not carry a balance.
- To have Twilio top the balance up automatically instead of only warning you, see "How do I set up auto-recharge for my Twilio balance?".
