Objective
This article explains how to enable auto-recharge so Twilio automatically tops your balance back up when it falls below an amount you choose, keeping your services running without manual payments.
Product
Twilio Billing
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
You need permission to create auto-recharge settings. Without it, the Enable auto-recharge action is not shown.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Billing in the left sidebar.
- Select Billing. The overview for your billing group opens.
- In the billing group's navigation, select Settings, then Auto-recharge. You can also select Enable auto-recharge on the billing type card of the Overview page.
- Select Enable auto-recharge.
- Complete the settings:
- When balance goes below — the amount that triggers a recharge. The help text shows the allowed range.
- Bring my balance back up to — the amount your balance is returned to. The help text shows the allowed range and notes any VAT that will be charged.
- Primary payment method — the card or account to charge.
- Select Save settings.
- The Auto-recharge page now shows the status On along with your threshold, recharge amount, and primary payment method.
Additional Information
- Both amounts must fall within the ranges shown in the help text.
- Some saved payment methods cannot be used for auto-recharge and are not offered in the list. Expired cards are also excluded.
- Auto-recharge is not available for invoiced billing groups.
- After enabling it, consider adding a backup payment method so a single declined card does not interrupt service — see "How do I add a backup payment method for auto-recharge?".
