Objective
This article shows you how to cancel a dedicated IP address you no longer need, so it stops being billed to your account.
Product
Twilio Email
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
You need a role with permission to view and manage email settings, plus a role that is allowed to cancel purchased products for the account. Without the settings permission, Settings does not appear under Email in the sidebar; without the cancellation permission, the Cancel IP address action is not offered.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
- Select Email, then Settings.
- Open the IP Addresses tab, then Dedicated IP addresses, and select the edit action on the row for the IP address you want to cancel.
- Select Cancel IP address.
- Read the confirmation dialog, which names the IP address and warns that the action cannot be undone.
- Select Cancel IP address to confirm, or Cancel to close the dialog and keep the address.
- A confirmation message reads "IP address cancelled successfully".
Additional Information
- Cancelling cannot be undone. If you need a dedicated IP address again later you have to purchase a new one and warm it up from scratch.
- Once cancellation is scheduled, the IP address is marked Cancellation scheduled in the Dedicated IP addresses table.
- Reassign any subaccounts and remove the address from your IP pools before cancelling, so their mail keeps a valid sending identity.
