- Select Messaging, then SMS Pumping Protection.
- On the Advanced Protection card, select Set up if you have no protection yet, or Upgrade if you are currently on Basic Protection.

- The Set Up Advanced Protection panel opens. Under Default Protection, choose the level that applies to every country you do not configure individually:

- Medium — a balanced approach, recommended for most businesses.
- High — the highest level of fraud protection; suitable for businesses operating in high-risk regions.
- Under Country-Specific Protection, add countries to the Low, Medium, High, and No protection fields as needed. Each field accepts multiple countries, and a country can appear in only one field.
- Under Messaging Use Case, choose how your traffic is classified:
- AI classification — Twilio's AI systems read and analyze message content to fine-tune detection of artificially inflated traffic.
- Custom classification — you declare the traffic type yourself. Then choose a value in Select primary messaging use case, such as OTP, Notifications, Fraud, Security, Customer Care, Delivery, Education, Events, Polling, Announcement, or Marketing.
- Select Save.
- A confirmation message tells you that SMS pumping protection has been updated and that you have selected Advanced protection.

Advanced Protection is a paid package. An additional $0.025 per message segment applies to messages sent to numbers outside the US and Canada. Select Price details on the Advanced Protection card for per-country pricing.
Country-specific levels always override the default protection level. Countries added to No protection have all SMS pumping protection removed, which increases their exposure to fraud.
A default protection level and a messaging use case are both required before you can save.
