How do I grant an identity access to a Sync Document?

Objective

This article helps you give a client identity read, write, or manage access to a specific Sync Document, and change that access later. Use it when your Service enforces access control and you want to decide per identity who can see or change a Document.

Product

Twilio Sync

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Your user role must allow reading Twilio Sync Services to open the Document, and updating them to save a permission.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Builder tools in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Sync, then Services.
  3. In the Name column, select the Service that holds the Document.
  4. Select the Documents tab, then select the Document in the Unique name / SID column.
  5. Select the Permissions tab.
  6. Select Grant access.
  7. In Identity, enter the client identity this access applies to.
  8. Select the access to give: Can read to read this Sync Document, Can write to update it, and Can manage to delete it.
  9. Select Grant. The identity appears in the table with Yes or No in the Can read, Can write, and Can manage columns.

To change an existing identity's access, open its row actions menu, select Edit, adjust the checkboxes, and select Save changes.

Additional Information

  • Permissions are only enforced while ACL enabled is turned on for the parent Service. If it is off, the Permissions tab shows a warning: the permissions are stored but have no effect until you enable access control on the Service's Configure tab.
  • The identity is the address of the permission, so it is read-only when you edit an existing entry. To move access to a different identity, revoke the old one and grant a new one.
  • An identity can be up to 256 characters.
  • All three access settings are saved together every time, so clearing a checkbox removes that access.
  • Enable at least one action. Saving with all three cleared has the same effect as revoking the identity.
