How do I add a new version to an email template?

Objective

This article shows you how to add another version to an existing email template, so you can try a new design or subject line without replacing the version you are already sending.

Product

Twilio Email

Environment

Twilio Console

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Messaging, then Templates.
  3. Select the Email tab, then Your templates.
  4. Find the template you want to extend, select Open menu on its row, then select Add version.
  5. On the Select Design step, choose the sample design to use as the starting point for the new version. Select Preview on a row first if you want to see it full screen.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. On the Version Information step, enter a Version name and a Subject.
  8. Complete the wizard.
  9. You are returned to Your templates, where the new version is nested beneath its template.

Additional Information

  • A template with no versions yet shows a row that reads "Add a version of this template".
  • New versions are created as inactive, so adding one does not change what you are currently sending.
  • Every version belongs to the same template and template SID; the version determines the design, subject, and content that gets sent.
