Objective
This article helps you open one call recording and read everything Twilio holds about it, its status, duration, cost, the call or conference it came from, and any error code, so you can investigate a specific recording.
Product
Programmable Voice
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
Your user needs permission to read recordings on the account. Without it, the console shows an access-required message instead of the details.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Monitor in the left sidebar.
- Select Logs, then Voice.
- Select the Call recordings tab.
- Select the date in the row for the recording you want. If you know the recording's identifier, search for it first using Search by Recording SID.
- The details page opens, titled with the recording's identifier, and notes when it was created — or, if it has been deleted, when it was deleted.
- Review the fields, which include Recording SID, Call SID, Date created, Status, Error code, Source, Duration, Track, Channels, Cost, Conference SID, Start time, End time, Date updated, Date deleted, Size, and API version.
- Select Call SID to open the log for the call the recording came from. Select Error code, when one is present, to open the reference page explaining that error.
Additional Information
- Use the copy control beside Recording SID to copy the identifier — useful when you need to quote it in a support request or use it in an API call.
- A conference recording has no call behind it, so Call SID is empty and there is nothing to open.
- Date deleted is only filled in for a recording that has been deleted. A recording deleted after you loaded the list still opens here, and the page says so in its header rather than reporting the recording as missing.
- While a recording is still being written, its Source shows a dash. What produced it is not settled until the recording finishes.
