This article shows you how to build a text-only content template, the simplest template type, so you can reuse the same message body across SMS, RCS, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp instead of composing it each time you send.

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Your user needs the content templates create permission for the account.

 

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Messaging, then Templates.
  3. Select Create new template.
  4. Enter a Template name and select a Template language.
  5. Under Content type, select Text, then select Continue.
  6. In the Text section, enter your message in the Body field.
  7. Select Save.

 

Additional Information

  • Body supports up to 1600 characters.
  • Text templates are eligible for SMS, RCS, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. WhatsApp business-initiated sends require approval first; WhatsApp replies within an existing conversation do not.
  • To personalize the body per recipient, use Add variable below the field.
