How do I check whether my account can call a specific phone number?

Objective

This article helps you test one phone number against your account's Voice geo permissions, so you can confirm whether an outbound call to it is allowed, and enable it on the spot if it is not.

Product

Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Read access to account settings, billing usage, and Voice geo permissions is required. Enabling a destination from the result requires update access to Voice geo permissions.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Voice, then Settings.
  3. Select the Geo permissions tab.
  4. Select Check a phone number.
  5. The Check phone number permissions dialog opens with the prompt "Enter a phone number to check its permissions on this account."
  6. Enter the number in the Phone number field.
  7. Select Check permissions.
  8. The dialog shows the result. If the destination is already permitted, the status reads Enabled. If it is not, an Enable button appears — select it to enable that destination.
  9. Select Back to check another number, or Close to finish.

Additional Information

  • The country code defaults to the United States (1). Change it if you are checking an international number.
  • Enabling a destination from this dialog has the same effect as switching the toggle on in the geo permissions table.
  • Selecting Cancel closes the dialog without changing anything.
  • The Check a phone number button is not available on a subaccount that inherits its geo permissions from a parent account.
