Objective
This article helps you review and change the provider, language, and voice that Twilio uses for Text to Speech when your TwiML does not name one explicitly, so that calls always fall back to the voice you want.

Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
Read access to your account's Text to Speech settings is required to open the page. Changing the default requires update access to Voice settings.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
- Select Voice, then Settings.
- Select the Text to speech tab.
- Under Default Settings, review the current values shown for Default Provider, Provider description, and Default voice.
- Select Edit Default Voice.
- In the Test & Configure your default voice dialog, under Voice settings, choose a Provider. The available providers are Amazon Polly, Google Text-to-Speech, and Basic.
- Choose a Language. Each option shows the language name followed by its locale code, for example English (US) (en-US).
- Choose a Voice. Each option shows the voice name and its gender.
- Select Save. A confirmation message reads "Default settings updated successfully" and the Default Settings section shows your new provider and voice.
Additional Information
- The default voice and language are used when no language or voice attribute is provided in your
<Say>TwiML. If you build flows in Studio, the defaults are also used wherever "Default" is selected. - Changing the provider clears the language and voice selections if the language you had chosen is not offered by the new provider — pick the language and voice again before saving.
- Select Cancel to close the dialog without changing anything.
- To set a specific voice per locale instead of one account-wide default, see the article on creating a Text to Speech language mapping.
- Voice settings are also reachable from Settings in the left sidebar, under Product settings › Voice.
