Objective
This article shows you how to attach a phone number you already own to an Elastic SIP Trunk, so its inbound calls are routed through the trunk.
Product
Elastic SIP Trunking
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
Your role must include permission to read SIP trunks to open the page, and permission to update SIP trunks to attach a number.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
- Select Voice, then Elastic SIP Trunking.
- On the SIP trunks tab, select the trunk, then open the Numbers tab.
- Select Add a number.
- In the Add a number panel, choose a number in the Phone number field. The list contains numbers you own that are not yet attached to a trunk; you can type to filter it.
- Select Add number.
- A Phone number added. confirmation appears and the number is listed in the table with its Phone number, Friendly name, E911 address status and Emergency address.
Additional Information
- A number can be attached to only one trunk at a time, so numbers already on a trunk do not appear in the picker.
- If the trunk has no numbers yet, the tab shows No phone numbers on this trunk.
- Emergency calling (E911) is configured per number, and the E911 address status column shows each number's current state — for example Registered, Unregistered, Pending, or Registration failed.
- Don't own a suitable number yet? Use Buy a number on the same tab to purchase one and attach it in a single step.
- Select Cancel to close the panel without attaching a number.
