How do I change the active region for a SIP domain?

Objective

This article helps you move a SIP domain's active region, which controls where voice traffic for that domain is processed and where its customer voice data is stored.

Product

Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Your user must have permission to update Voice SIP domains on the account. Without it, the Change active region button is not shown.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Voice, then SIP domains.
  3. Select the friendly name of the domain you want to change.
  4. In the Active region section, select Change active region.
  5. In Edit active region, choose the region you want to make active.
  6. Select Update region.
  7. In the Update active region? confirmation, read the listed impacts, select I reviewed this information., then select Update region.
  8. An Active region updated confirmation appears and the Active region section shows the new region.

Additional Information

  • Only regions where this domain is already configured can be selected. If you see Other regions not yet configured — "To select another region, you must first create a SIP domain in that location." — create the domain in the target region before changing the active region.
  • The confirmation step spells out what changes: voice traffic routes through the new region immediately, and customer voice data for the domain is processed and stored there.
  • Update region in the confirmation stays unavailable until you select the review checkbox.
  • To avoid disruption, configure and test the domain in the target region before switching your production traffic.
