How do I change the calls per second (CPS) limit on my account?

Objective

This article helps you raise or lower the calls per second limit that Twilio applies to outbound calls made through the REST API, and shows you what the change will cost before you commit to it.

Product

Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Read access to Voice settings is required to view the page. Update access to Voice settings is required to change CPS, without it the Edit CPS button is unavailable.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Voice, then Settings.
  3. On the General tab, Calls & Conferences is selected by default. Under Calls per second (CPS), check the Current CPS configuration value.
  4. Select Edit CPS.
  5. In the Update calls per second dialog, enter your new value in the Calls per second (CPS) field. The helper text states the permitted range.
  6. Move focus out of the field. The billing details table below refreshes to show the Description, Frequency, and Price for the new value.
  7. Choose when the change takes effect. Leave Start CPS update immediately selected to apply it now, or clear it and pick a Start Date.
  8. Select the checkbox labelled "I acknowledge this change to CPS will change my monthly fee".
  9. Select Update. The dialog closes and your change is recorded.

Additional Information

  • The CPS value applies in all Twilio Regions. The default is 1.
  • Outbound calls made through the REST API are throttled and queued so that they never exceed the CPS value you set.
  • The CPS field is validated: values below the minimum show a "must be greater" error, values above the maximum show a "must be less" error, and an empty field shows a required-field error. Update does nothing while the form is invalid.
  • The acknowledgement checkbox is required. Selecting Update without it shows "Acknowledgment is required" and the dialog stays open.
  • To request a CPS higher than the Console allows, contact Twilio Sales.
  • Until your account has an approved compliance profile, CPS and concurrent calls are limited by Twilio and Edit CPS is unavailable. A banner headed Create a compliance profile links you to where you can create one.
  • Edit CPS is also unavailable while a CPS change is already scheduled. Cancel the scheduled change first.
  • Select Cancel to close the dialog without submitting anything.
  • To see the price tiers before you decide on a value, see the article on viewing calls per second pricing.
