How do I create a BYOC trunk?

Objective

This article shows you how to create a Bring your own carrier (BYOC) trunk so you can connect your own PSTN voice carrier to Twilio and handle its calls with Programmable Voice.

Product

Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Your role must include permission to create BYOC trunks. Without it, the Create BYOC Trunk button is not shown.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Voice, then Bring your own carrier.
  3. On the Trunks tab, select Create BYOC Trunk.
  4. In the Create a new BYOC trunk dialog, enter a Trunk friendly name. This is a unique identifier for the trunk, up to 255 characters.
  5. Select Create.
  6. A BYOC trunk created confirmation appears and the console opens the new trunk's detail page, where you can configure termination, from domain, origination and call handling.

Additional Information

  • A friendly name is required. Submitting the dialog with the field empty keeps the dialog open and shows the validation error rather than creating a trunk.
  • Select Cancel to close the dialog without creating anything.
  • A newly created trunk starts with no termination SIP domains, no from domain and no origination connection policy. Configure those on the detail page before sending traffic.
