How do I change the voice used for a language mapping?

Objective

This article helps you edit an existing Text to Speech language mapping so that calls in that locale use a different provider or voice.

Product

Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Read access to your account's Text to Speech settings is required to open the page. Editing a mapping requires update access to Voice settings.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Voice, then Settings.
  3. Select the Text to speech tab.
  4. In the Language mapping table, find the row for the locale you want to change.
  5. Select Edit in that row.
  6. In the Edit locale mapping dialog, the Provider, Language, and Voice fields are pre-filled with the mapping's current values.
  7. Change the Voice — or the Provider and Language — as needed. Voice options show each voice's name and gender, for example Matthew (Male).
  8. Select Save. A confirmation message reads "Locale mapping saved successfully" and the table shows the updated voice.

Additional Information

  • Select Cancel to close the dialog without applying your changes. The original mapping stays as it was.
  • Changing the provider clears the language and voice selections when the language you picked is not offered by the new provider — reselect both before saving.
  • To remove a mapping entirely rather than change it, see the article on deleting a Text to Speech language mapping.
