How do I chat, text, or call the sandbox AI agent?

Objective

The point of the sandbox is that one conversation follows you across channels. This article shows you how to talk to the example AI agent over webchat, SMS, and voice, and how to read what Twilio is doing behind the scenes.

Product

Twilio Conversations

Environment

Twilio Console

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Home in the left sidebar.
  2. In the Try it out section, open the Orchestration tab and select Explore sandbox, then complete the setup form and select Launch demo.
  3. On the Live conversation tab, use the channel tabs to switch between Webchat, SMS, and Voice. Webchat is selected by default.
  4. On Webchat, type a message in the chat box and send it. The agent replies in the same panel.
  5. On SMS, follow the Add SMS to the conversation instructions: text the number shown from the phone number on your demo profile. Your messages and the agent's replies then appear in this panel.
  6. On Voice, follow the Add Voice to the conversation instructions: call the number shown from the phone number on your demo profile.
  7. Watch the panel on the right. It builds a Conversation transcript across every channel, alongside an Event log of what the Twilio Conversations layer is doing.
  8. Select View event on any entry to open its details, and from there Go to sandbox configuration to jump straight to the product setting behind it.
  9. When you're finished, select End conversation.

Additional Information

  • All three channels feed one conversation. Start on webchat, carry on by text, and the agent keeps the context.
  • Calling and texting are only available from a phone number with a +1 country code, and only on upgraded accounts. Otherwise the SMS and Voice panels explain the restriction and offer Upgrade now where an upgrade would lift it, webchat still works.
  • Before the first message arrives, the transcript panel shows Nothing here... yet.
  • After you end the conversation, each panel captions itself so you know nothing more will arrive, for example Conversation ended. Additional messages will not be shown.
  • If the session can't start, the panel shows Failed to connect and suggests closing and re-launching the demo.
  • The number used for SMS and voice is the same sandbox number, so one number covers both.
