How do I map source columns to customer profile traits?

Objective

This article helps you finish a CRM or warehouse mapping by telling Conversation Memory which column from your dataset writes to which customer profile trait. Until columns are mapped, the connected data does not reach your profiles.

Product

Conversation Memory

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Your role must allow reading Conversation Memory memory stores.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Data in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Conversation Memory, then Memory stores.
  3. Select the store, then open the Data sources tab and choose CRM or Warehouse.
  4. Select New mapping, then select Add mapping in the task list. The Add mapping page opens with your dataset's columns listed under Unassigned columns.
  5. For a column you want to import, choose the trait group it belongs to.
  6. Choose the trait field the column should map to.
  7. Select Apply on that row. The column moves out of Unassigned columns and into the trait group's section, for example Contact traits. A column mapped to an identifier trait is marked as an identifier.
  8. Repeat for each column you want to import.
  9. Select Save mapping. You are returned to the CRM mappings or Warehouse mappings page with the new mapping listed.

Additional Information

  • At least one column must be mapped. Saving with nothing mapped shows No columns mapped and the message Assign at least one column to a trait group before saving.
  • Assigning a column to a trait group is not enough on its own, you must also pick a trait field and select Apply. A column left part-way through still counts as unmapped.
  • At least one mapped column must be an identifier trait. Otherwise saving shows an Identity Resolution trait required error, because Conversation Memory has no way to match the incoming rows to a customer.
  • If a trait field you need does not exist yet, create it first on the store's Traits tab.
