How do I import customer profiles from a CSV file?

Objective

This article helps you bulk load customer data into a memory store from a CSV file, so Conversation Memory starts with the customers you already know about instead of building profiles only from new conversations.

Product

Conversation Memory

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Your role must allow importing Conversation Memory customer profiles.

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select Data in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Conversation Memory, then Memory stores.
  3. Select the store you want to import into, then open the Customer profiles tab.
  4. Select Add profiles.
  5. On the Select a CSV file step, read the Confirm identifiers before uploading data warning, then use CSV file to choose the file you want to upload. To start from a pre-formatted file, expand CSV template and select Download CSV template.
  6. Select Next.
  7. If the Auto-map columns step appears, review the suggested mappings between your CSV columns and the store's traits, keep the ones you want, and select Next, or select Skip to map everything yourself.
  8. On the Map CSV columns step, map each CSV column to a customer profile trait field. If a trait field does not exist yet, you can add a new one, add it to an existing trait group, create a new trait group, or choose not to import that column.
  9. Complete the wizard. A CSV file successfully uploaded for processing. confirmation appears, noting that processing can take a few minutes.

Additional Information

  • Your CSV must include a column for phone or email, or both, and at least one of the columns you map must be an identifier trait. If none is mapped, the upload is rejected and the message lists the identifier traits you can use.
  • At least two column mappings are required.
  • You can upload one file at a time, with up to 1,000,000 rows and up to 100 columns.
  • Empty cells (including "") overwrite the current field value with an empty string. Use \N to remove the current value instead.
  • New profiles are created for customers that do not match an existing profile. New columns are not added to profiles automatically, map them to trait fields first.
  • Before uploading, check that your identifiers are prioritised the way you want on the store's Identifiers tab.
