Objective
Twilio's own rules are read-only, so when one is nearly right you copy it and edit the copy. This article shows you how to clone a rule from your rule list and adjust it.
Product
Fraud Risk Engine
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
Your user needs permission to create Fraud Risk Engine rules. Without it, Twilio reports an authorization error instead of saving the copy.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Identity & security in the left sidebar.
- Select Fraud Risk Engine, then Rule Management.
- Find the rule you want to copy.
- Open its actions menu and select Clone & Customize. You can also select View & Manage to read the rule first, then select Clone & customize from inside the panel.
- The copy opens in an editable panel headed Copy Rule, with Rule origin set to Custom and the Rule name prefilled from the original with a suffix marking it as your copy.
- Adjust the copy:
- Under Rule details, change the Rule name, Event Type, Custom Type ID, and Description.
- Under Rule configuration, change the Conditions, the Confidence Score, and the decision under Actions / Outcome.
- Use the Active switch in the panel header to say whether the new rule should start evaluating traffic.
- Select Save. If the switch is off, confirm with Save without activating.
- The new rule appears on the Rules Management table with Custom as its origin.
Additional Information
- Cloning leaves the original rule untouched. If the original is active, both it and your copy evaluate traffic once the copy is activated, so review whether you want to deactivate the original.
- You can clone your own custom rules too, not just Twilio's.
- Rule name must start with a letter and use only letters, numbers, or underscores, so the prefilled name is already valid but you can shorten it.
