Objective
This article shows you how to submit a bulk action against many subaccounts in a single request, instead of changing each one individually. Bulk actions let you suspend, un-suspend, or close up to 1,000 subaccounts of the same main account in one go.
Product
Twilio Console
Environment
Twilio Console
User Account Permission/Role(s) Required
Permission to manage subaccounts on the main account. Without it, opening the bulk actions area shows Access is required instead of the page.
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Settings in the left sidebar.
- Under Account settings, select Subaccount management.
- Select the Bulk actions tab, then select New Bulk action.
- On the Select bulk action step, choose one action, then select Next:
- Suspend subaccounts, blocks all API traffic; the subaccounts cannot make or receive calls or SMS.
- Un-suspend subaccounts, restores suspended subaccounts to active, resuming API traffic immediately.
- Close subaccounts, terminates the subaccounts permanently; resources are released and API requests fail.
- On the Input subaccount SIDs step, provide the subaccounts using one of the two options, then select Next:
- Option 1: Upload list of subaccounts with CSV, drag in a CSV file with a single column labelled Subaccount_SID. Use Download CSV template here to get the correct format.
- Option 2: Copy + paste subaccount SIDs, paste the SIDs into the Subaccount SIDs box, separated by commas or on new lines.
- On the Confirm and submit step, check the Summary of bulk action, which shows Subaccounts uploaded, Target main account, and Action to be performed.
- Under When would you like the bulk action performed?, leave Immediately selected.
- If you chose Close subaccounts, read the acknowledgement under Before closing this subaccount, please acknowledge the following: and tick the box to confirm.
- Select Submit bulk action. You are returned to the Bulk actions tab, where the new job appears in the list.
Additional Information
- The two input options are mutually exclusive. Once you upload a CSV, the paste box is disabled; once you type into the paste box, the file upload is disabled. To switch from a CSV to pasting, remove the uploaded file first using its remove control and then confirm with Delete.
- Closing subaccounts is permanent. The acknowledgement covers the consequences: you immediately lose access to the subaccount and are responsible for downloading a copy of your data first; all API requests afterwards fail; recurring charges stop; Twilio releases phone numbers, short codes, and other associated resources; and the subaccount and its communications content are scheduled for deletion in line with Twilio's Privacy Notice and your agreement with Twilio. Links to the full resources list and the Privacy Notice are on the step. Submitting without ticking the box shows You must acknowledge the terms before closing subaccounts.
- Use Back to return to an earlier step. Your action choice and pasted SIDs are preserved.
- Selecting Cancel asks you to confirm with Close without saving and then returns you to the Bulk actions tab without submitting anything.
- If submission fails, the wizard stays open and shows the reason, a specific message such as Subaccount SID(s) not found, or Failed to submit the bulk action. Please try again. for a general failure.
