How do I choose a starting balance when I upgrade my account?

Objective

The second step of the account upgrade asks how much to load onto your account balance. This article helps you pick a preset amount or enter your own, and explains the limits that apply.

Product

Twilio Console, Billing

Environment

Twilio Console

Procedure

  1. In the Twilio Console, select the Trial badge in the account status area at the top of the page, then select Upgrade.
  2. Select Upgrade account, complete the Your account and tax details step, and select Next.
  3. On Starting balance and auto-recharge, make sure the Starting Balance tab is selected.
  4. Under Starting balance, choose one of the amounts:
  5. The lowest preset, Best for individual explorers.
  6. The middle preset, Ideal for small and midsize business.
  7. The highest preset, Perfect for scaling enterprises.
  8. Custom amount, Set a starting balance.
  9. If you chose Custom amount, enter the amount in Enter amount. The help text under the field shows the allowed range.
  10. Set your auto-recharge preferences below, then select Next to continue to the payment step. The balance you chose is shown at the top of the payment step.

Additional Information

  • The preset amounts are shown in your billing currency, which comes from the country in your tax address. For example, US dollar accounts are offered $20, $50 and $100; pound sterling accounts £20, £35 and £75; and Japanese yen accounts ¥2,000, ¥8,000 and ¥15,000.
  • Custom amounts have a minimum, and in most cases a maximum. If you enter a value outside the range, the field shows the allowed range as an error.
  • If you go Back and change your billing country, the balance amounts are recalculated in the new currency and your earlier selection is reset to the middle preset.
  • If you have a promo code instead of an amount to pay, switch to the Promo Code tab.
