Objective
This article explains why the Messaging or Voice and emergency address page for one of your phone numbers shows a Capability not supported message instead of a configuration form, and what you can do about it.

Environment
Twilio Console
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
- Select Numbers & senders, then Overview.
- Select Phone Numbers, then My Inventory.
- Select the actions menu on the number's row and choose View numbers details.
- Look at the capability badges in the page header, they show which channels the number supports, and you can also check the Capabilities column back in My Inventory.
- Select Configuration details, then either Messaging or Voice and emergency address.
- If the number does not support that channel, the page shows the heading Capability not supported with the message This sender does not support this capability, and no Edit details action.
Additional Information
Both tabs always stay visible so you can confirm the number's capabilities, even when one of them cannot be configured.
A number without SMS or MMS capability cannot be given a messaging configuration; a number without voice capability cannot be given a voice or emergency-calling configuration.
If you need the missing capability, buy a number that supports it and use the Capabilities filter to check what is available.
