This article shows you how to see which Twilio Region processes and stores traffic and data for one of your phone numbers, and how to move it to a different region.
Product
Phone Numbers
Environment
Twilio Console
Procedure
- In the Twilio Console, select Communications in the left sidebar.
- Select Numbers & senders, then Overview.
- Select Phone Numbers, then My Inventory.
- Select the actions menu on the number's row and choose View numbers details.
- Select Configuration details, then Regional.
- The Regional configuration page shows the Active region for the number, together with Other available regions and which of Messaging and Voice each one supports.
- Select Change active region.
- In Edit active region, choose the region you want, then select Update region.
- The panel closes and the page shows the new active region. The Messaging configuration and Voice and emergency address pages show an Active Region: badge matching your selection.
Additional Information
The region you choose determines where Twilio processes and stores personal data for that number.
Not every region supports every channel. If the region you select does not support one of them, the panel warns you, for example that messaging is not available in that region, or that voice is not available in that region. Messaging for +1 numbers is not supported in Ireland.
If the number currently uses a different region for Voice than for Messaging, changing the region here overrides that setup and applies your selection to both channels. To keep separate regions per channel, use the regional routing API instead.
If the change fails, a message appears: Failed to change active region. Please try again.
