How to Delete Twilio Call Recordings, Stop Future Recording, and Prevent Storage Charges

Objective

This article explains how to:

  • Permanently delete all existing call recordings from your Twilio account
  • Stop Twilio from recording and storing future calls
  • Ensure you are no longer billed for recording storage

Product

Twilio Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

  • Owner or Administrator role on the Twilio account
  • Access to the Twilio Console
  • (If using a third-party integration) Admin access to the integration’s call/recording settings

Procedure

1. Deleting Existing Call Recordings

Important: Deleting recordings is permanent and cannot be undone.

  1. Log in to the Twilio Console
  2. Navigate to Voice > Recordings.
  3. Use the date filter to select a custom date range. For best results, select a range of up to 89 days at a time.
  4. Click Filter and wait for the list of recordings to load.
  5. Click Select All to select all recordings in the filtered range.
  6. Click Action > Delete to remove the selected recordings.
  7. Repeat steps 3–6 for each time slot until all recordings are deleted.

Tip: The Console may limit the number of recordings you can select at once (e.g., 50 per page). If you encounter errors when deleting large batches, reduce the batch size or date range.

2. Stopping Future Call Recordings

  • Twilio only records calls if instructed by your application or integration (e.g., via the <Record> verb or recording parameters in your code or third-party CRM).
  • If you use a third-party integration (such as Go High Level CRM), you must disable call recording in that platform’s settings. Consult your integration’s support or documentation for instructions.
  • Once recording is disabled in your integration, Twilio will no longer generate or store new recordings.

3. Preventing Future Storage Charges

  • Twilio charges for storage based on the volume of recordings stored in your account.
  • Once all recordings are deleted and no new recordings are generated, storage charges will automatically stop.
  • You can verify your storage usage and charges in the Twilio Console Billing section.

Additional Information

  • If you encounter persistent errors when deleting recordings (e.g., “There was a problem attempting to delete your recording”), try:
    • Filtering by smaller date ranges (e.g., 50–89 days)
    • Deleting in smaller batches (e.g., 50 recordings at a time)
    • Waiting for the list to fully load before selecting and deleting
  • If you are unable to delete recordings via the Console after following these steps, there may be an account-specific issue. In such cases, gather screenshots or screen recordings of the error and reach out to Twilio Support for further assistance.
  • Always confirm with your third-party integration provider that call recording is fully disabled to prevent new recordings from being created.
